Toyota Land Cruiser 2024: All about it
We assumed the Land Cruiser was extinct—primarily because Toyota told us so—but surprise! The off-road champion is back. It shares a base with the recently revised Lexus GX and has a similar boxy appearance; however, the Land Cruiser has features including a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid motor producing 326 hp. The Lexus has a turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine that produces 349 horsepower. The previous version of LC was a full-size SUV, but this time it is a medium-sized SUV to compete with other major off-roaders like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. That technique also opens up the full-size SUV market for the Toyota Sequoia.
Inside, the Land Cruiser has space for five across two rows and the necessary infotainment technologies to satisfy current purchasers. Toyota even includes advanced driver-aid systems because most Land Cruiser holders will use this truck as both a weekend toy and a daily commuter. When it comes time to hit the trails, the Land Cruiser is equipped with a four-wheel driving system featuring low-range gears and locking differentials.

Toyota Land Cruiser
The boxy new Land Cruiser returns for the 2024 model year, riding on an updated basis. This means hybrid technology and a smaller design, making it better suited to competing with Ford and Jeep off-road vehicles.
Price
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser launches at $55,950 and ranges up to $74,950 according to trim and extras. The last time a Land Cruiser went on sale in the United States, it cost a high $87,030, but this time Toyota says the Land Cruiser will begin selling at a more appealing $55,950. Given the Land Cruiser’s smaller structure and five-seat cabin, the lower sticker price is reasonable. Based on the pricing information we have, the mid-range Land Cruiser trim appears to be the greatest value, as it includes ventilated rear seats, a 10-speaker radio system, a larger 12.3-inch LCD, and larger all-terrain tires, across other features.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Toyota’s updated Land Cruiser features a turbocharged hybrid motor rather than a normally aspirated V-8 engine. A supercharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors generates 326 horsepower. This combination may seem familiar because it is comparable to the engine used in the Toyota Tacoma. All Land Cruisers come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, a locking center distinct, low-range gearing, crawl management, and hill descent control. During our initial test drive, we learned that the hybrid powertrain has plenty of torque, and we expect it to be nearly as fast as the V-6-powered Lexus GX550. When we test the Land Cruiser, we will update this report with the 60-mph performance statistics.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA fuel economy ratings for the Land Cruiser are 23 mpg combined, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg highway. These are much superior numbers to those offered by the previous generation V-8 vehicle. When we get an opportunity, we will take the Land Cruiser on our 75-mph highway fuel efficiency test route and update this report with real-world data. The EPA’s website contains additional information regarding the Land Cruiser’s fuel efficiency.
Interior, Convenience, and Cargo
Unlike its predecessor, the new Land Cruiser is a two-row, five-seat SUV. Toyota has reduced the Cruiser’s body size this time around, putting it in competition with mid-size rivals such as the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, rather than full-size SUVs such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. While the base 1958 trim lacks many of the comforts seen in the other trims, it does include heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio. The mid-range trim and the limited-production. First Edition has interiors that are more opulent with ventilated seats including the 10-speaker stereos, and optional leather upholstery.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All Land Cruisers come equipped with Toyota’s superb multimedia system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto, although the base 1958 grade has a very small 8.0-inch screen. All other trim levels include a substantially larger 12.3-inch touchscreen. USB-C charging outlets and a wireless cellphone charging pad are standard, but onboard Wi-Fi and the available 14-speaker JBL music system require an additional fee.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Land Cruiser, like the majority of Toyota’s current vehicles, includes a long number of standard driver-assistance systems. Lane-departure alert automated high-beam headlights and dynamic cruise control are among the features included in Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which also includes expected technologies like automated emergency braking. The NHTSA and the IIHS websites provide more information regarding the Land Cruiser’s crash test results. Safety features include automatic emergency brakes with pedestrian detection, lane departure warnings with lane-keeping assist, and intelligent cruise control with lane centering.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Toyota offers two years of gratis planned maintenance, which is uncommon in this category. Other areas receive less attention but meet industry standards.
• Limited warranty: a total of three years or 36,000 miles.
• The powertrain warranty is five years or 60,000 miles.
• Maintenance is included for two years or 25,000 miles.
